On Monday I posted about our first daughter, Melinda's, birthday...Five years and two days later, on August 22nd, l967, our other daughter, Amy Lynne, made her appearance.....she was born at 3:42 am, weighing in at 6 pounds 1 ounce....
My doctor had already taken his vacation that summer and he assured me he would be in town. Two weeks before my due date, I awoke one morning and could not lift my arm. After visiting my doctor, he admitted me with a blood clot under my left arm next to my heart. I spent a couple of days in the hospital taking medication to dissolve the clot.
A few days later, I began having lower back pain really bad and as I was in town, I ran by the clinic just to be checked. The receptionist informed me that my doctor was in some far away state duck hunting.....I was so mad I didn't see another doctor and just went home.......steaming.
Later, that night, we went to the hospital when the labor pains came closer and closer together.
Amy was born the same way her sister had been....sunny side up......Early the next morning my door was open and guess who came up the stairwell? My vacationing, duck hunter doctor. His mother-in-law had become ill and he was called home. He came into the room and cheerfully asked what I had...I rather dryly told him, " a little girl unless the circumcision was too close." I was still outdone with him.......
Amy was a new toy for her five year old sister......but Mindy was jealous....even to the point of wanting a bottle for a couple of days....thankfully she warmed up to the idea of having a little sister.
Amy was a happy child and smiled most of the time.......once when she was about four or five, she wanted curly hair.....well, curls don't run in our family on either side. I was in the middle of giving her a permanent when she decided she no longer desired curly hair........we did finish after a heart to heart talk......
Amy has always been extremely determined.......I often told her that God had something special in store for her.....I didn't know what, maybe an afflicted child, but she had been given her determination for a reason. Now I think I know the reason........Read further to see. One thing, Amy taught me patience.........she learned every floor board in our bedroom that creaked. I would wake up in the middle of the night with two eyes staring down into mine and warm breathing on my face with the question, "Mama, are you asleep?" I always looked down on the floor by the bed before I put my feet on the floor so that I didn't step on a sleeping Amy. She had her own room but preferred to sleep with her sister.........
Once when the Olympics were on television and we were watching the gymnastic events, Amy said, " I'm going to do that." After some pleading, we signed her up. The coach when interviewing her asked her to sit down, place her hands on the floor in front of her and lift her body up. She did it without hesitation....She won many ribbons and was winner of overall events a couple of times. We traveled all over the state to meets. She played basketball and softball in high school and both girls enjoyed fishing........
Amy is a school teacher by profession, a wife and mother by vocation. She taught in public and private school for several years. She is a minister's wife. She and Chad are the parents of six children and live next door to us. She home-schools the five oldest. Amy has the patience of Job. She is calm and even tempered..very seldom have I ever heard her raise her voice to the children. Chad is the same. Mindy, her sister, said, " well, the Lord knew who to make the preacher's wife and give six children."
Amy has always enjoyed writing stories. I was looking at both girl's baby books this week. I'd stuck several of her stories in her book. She has been published many times in the last few years and is a regular contributor to several magazines. She critiques for a couple also.
Amy is one of the best cooks ever. I would buy a meal ticket at their home anytime. She likes French-Country-Cottage decor and her home is tastefully decorated.....Amy is blessed to sing beautifully.....she sings at weddings and funerals. She and the children go with me to the nursing home to entertain the residents. I play and they sing.....the children have grown up going to visit and sing there and it's second nature to them.
If everyone's children gave them no more trouble and heartache than our girls have given us.....this would be a care-free world. Edward and I are so blessed with our family.
Happy Fortieth Birthday Amy. Daddy and I love you dearly and thank the good Lord for letting us have you.........
Amy's blog is Picketfence Mom's Place.....please drop by and wish her a Happy 40th Birthday...
