Friday Show and Tell......................Faux brick floor

It's Friday, so it is Show and Tell Time over at Kelli's place.....Today I want to show you my faux brick floor that is so easy and cheap to do....I had plain ole gray concrete floors in the sun room and my music-garden-reading room......I cut a stencil of four bricks, two turned different ways, using a brick as a pattern leaving about an inch between each brick for mortar...I chose a brick colored semi gloss paint.

The sun porch floor was very smooth and had been painted gray..This was the first floor I did. It took about 6-8 hours to do. After completing the painting and allowing a day to dry really well, I applied a satin polyeurathane finish.

The other room was a rougher finished concrete and really does look like brick....I followed the same directions. It had not been painted but worked just fine. Always begin in a corner. I did two rows of four bricks at the time, the length of the room.

Every 30 minutes, you need to stand up and walk around a few minutes to give your back a rest.

This corner cabinet was maple before I painted it white. I took the toile fabric, dipped it in liquid starch, squeezed it out, and placed it on the doors., smoothing it. I then took ribbon and placed it around the raw edges...When it dries, it looks like wallpaper. It can be stripped off and leaves no evidence of ever being there. You can use the same fabric over and over. I 've used this method on walls, etc.......

Gardening room.....through the door is the sun porch. I like using shutters on the inside windows rather than window treatments....I've recovered the chair and footstool in a cream and burgundy red toile since this picture was made.

Finished floor above. Some places are a little darker and some lighter. I like the variance of color.

This is how I started in a corner.. you can seen the raw concrete floor on the right......I knelt on a foam rubber gardening mat to paint.....
